War is the field for the Empire's young officers to make a name for themselves, their chance to shine. When war calls again, Commander Niel Morrison, the scion of one of the Empire's greatest naval families, jumps at the opportunity. For Lieutenant Arien Noble, it is her last chance to save her quickly sinking marine career. It seems a perfect relationship, destined to give both of them exactly what they need. What neither grasps is that this is a war beyond the usual cyclical expansions that came before...

I liked this book. It was very well done and had a lot going for it. The characters were real, believable. The story was interesting. The writing was good. Unfortunately, the ending was one of the most deeply unsatisfying endings to a novel that I have ever encountered. I really want to drop the rating even further, but I can't in good conscience do so because I enjoyed the first 95% so much.UPDATE: I've upped my review to 5 stars since the sequel was released. Without knowing there would be a second book, the ending was unacceptable, but there is a sequel that I am happy with so by all means do read this book (and the next). :)

The Emperor Finest eBook Melissa Cuevas Reviews
Let me start with the good stuff I enjoyed this book. It jumps right into a plot plot based on an almost-British Empire-type navy Space Marine elements. Love at first page. The atmosphere of honor and bureaucracy was beautifully evoked from the start. The characters are memorable and vividly described, they have full lives and real problems, and the action and battle descriptions are compelling.
Also, the ending is perfect. It was poignant and heartbreaking, and perfect.
That would be 4 stars. Except.
I stopped noting spelling and punctuation errors within the first chapter, the paragraph structure was often odd, with dialogue sometimes buried and sometimes not, and there were tons of awkward "saidisms." Things like, “Way to go, Noble.” She snapped. and “Stone Alpha, this is Butterfly Alpha, report, over!” Hathaway demanded. really jarred me out of the reading flow.
Formatting, punctuation errors and basic structural muddiness subtract stars from a recommendation. This would be a 2 rating, but it's free, and it's worth reading if you can tune out a lot to enjoy a brilliant kernel of story hiding inside the oyster.
I have never read such a pathetic ending as in this book. I would like an explanation, please. The following words are needed to meet the minimum requirements for a book review.
I found this book to be very good as well except for the very end. Im not sure if it is a set up for a second book, i dont really see how that is possible with the ending. War is a terrible thing but those that have gone through tend not to run away from those they went through it with instead holding onto them because they understand what they have gone through.
I rated it with four stars, the writing was good, it had a few grammatical mistakes but what book doesnt and i could easily read over them
